Redwood Valley

oil painting of fictional coastal town

A town in present day California, named for the towering Redwood trees. It was founded in the 1890s where it thrived in the logging industry before transitioning into a sustainable community.

Notable locations

Everhart Mansion

Built in 1896 on cliffs overlooking the river mouth and Pacific, the mansion is a symbol of industrial dominance. It also became known as "The House the Forest Built".

GreenCorps

A renewable energy corporation currently owned by the Everhart family. It was founded in the early 1990s by Randall Everhart.

Park Cleaners

A multi-use building where the living space is located just above the laundromat business run by the Park family.

Redwood University

Redwood Valley's own Redwood University sits on the edge of town. Founded in 1925, it's a selective institution that boasts the best and brightest students from across the nation.

Redwood University Archery Club

A program that began around the institution's founding. Throughout the years, the archery club has had talented members with Daisuke Everhart and Victor Park being among them.

Rosie's Redwood Diner

Run by a migrant family, the diner is a beloved gathering spot for working-class locals, students, and families alike. Open early and closing late, it is known for massive breakfast plates, homemade pies, and bilingual menus.

River And Ridge Times

The town's small, yet fiercely independent newspaper operates out of an aging building with a sharp editorial voice. It investigates illegal logging, publishes opinion columns from across the political spectrum, and critiques GreenCorps when necessary. Even without a corporate owner and often operating on a tight budget, the paper remains widely respected.

Meet the residents

Name Daisuke Everhart
Gender Male
Age 21
Ethnicity Japanese-American
Occupation Redwood University student (Finance), Archery Club Captain

The heir to GreenCorps, Daisuke is a model student and an equally dedicated archer. Yet, none of his achievements ever satisfies his father, Blake Everhart. Years of relentless scrutiny have left Daisuke struggling to form meaningful relationships. Despite his father's shadow, Daisuke is gradually uncovering his true self.

  • Blake Everhart controls his family with an iron fist. A stern patriarch, he imposes high expectations on Daisuke with the hopes of shaping him into a future leader of the family company. As the figurehead for GreenCorps, Blake embodies both authority and ambition.
  • Yumi Everhart's marriage of convenience to Blake was intended to strengthen the alliance between their families' businesses. Despite its pragmatic origins, Yumi still harbors genuine feelings for her husband, convinced that goodness remains in him. Where Blake lacks in warmth and connection, Yumi provides to Daisuke twicefold. She currently works as an elementary school teacher.
  • Randall Everhart was once a commanding presence at the helm of GreenCorps, now retired to a sun-warmed house on the Hawaiian coast. Age has softened him, but there's now a gruffness beneath the calm. Randall's phone often rings with calls from Blake asking for advice on running the family business.
  • Benjamin "Ben" Lewis runs a small mom and pop convenience store. Years ago, he had caught a young and rebellious Daisuke shoplifting, but chose compassion over punishment, making him work for the amount he had taken instead of pressing charges. Ben's act of kindness became a turning point in Daisuke's life.

Name Victor Park
Gender Male
Age 21
Ethnicity Korean-American
Occupation Redwood University student (Electrical Engineering), Archery Club Vice-Captain, Part-Timer at Park Cleaners

As a child, Victor longed for the attention his parents lavished on his older brother, Eugene. He realizes that exceptional grades and outstanding performance in his hobbies earns him praises. Over time, this craving for approval shaped his desire for instant gratification - along with a short temper and an intense competitive streak.

  • Chul-soo "Chris" Park owns Park Cleaners, a family-run laundromat that he operates alongside his wife. Chris is a diligent and often strict man who holds high expectations for his eldest son, Eugene, and pushes him to succeed in life. Despite his stern demeanor, Chris enjoys delivering terrible dad jokes in broken English.
  • Jin-woo "Grace" Park works alongside her husband to manage the family's Park Cleaners laundromat business. She is a strict mother who prides herself in her sons' achievements and can often be a toxic partner to Chris. Like her husband, Grace has high expectations for her eldest son, Eugene, to succeed in life.
  • Being the firstborn child, Eugene Park carried the weight of his parents' high expectations. They often prioritized his needs before Victor's, fostering jealousy and resentment in his younger brother. Even so, Eugene makes an effort to be involved in Victor's life and maintain a strong bond with him. Free-spirited and adventurous, he has a deep love for ships and the open sea. He now works as a Marine Electrician at a local shipyard.

Name Chase Williams
Gender Female
Age 22
Ethnicity American
Occupation College student (Environmental Science), Field Research Assistant

Impressive Redwoods, dirt-streaked knees, and archery defined Chase's childhood. When a federal investigation forced her family to relocate, she leaves behind her hometown and Daisuke without closure. Years later, she studies environmental science and dedicates herself to land restoration. She returns to Redwood Valley to confront the ecological damage of the past and the unresolved ties she once abandoned.

  • Chase admires some things about her father: competent, decisive, and fiercely protective toward those he cares about. However, Daniel Williams' protectiveness is wrapped in emotional distance. Chase knows Daniel kept secrets from her "for her own good," but those secrets shaped her worldview. Their father-daughter relationship remains complicated by their family's scandal.
  • Heather Williams' patience, empathy, and aversion to conflict position her as the emotional buffer between Daniel's intensity and Chase's spirited energy. Chase often becomes frustrated with Heather's tendency to avoid confrontation, believing it may have enabled the secrecy surrounding her father's work. Yet in quiet moments, Chase and Heather connect deeply through shared humor and unspoken understanding.
  • Mason Owens, a former park ranger, believed that experience is the best teacher. As Chase's early mentor, he instilled the philosophy that "the arrow tells the truth," emphasizing that archery is rooted in observation, reflection, and resilience rather than results. Though Mason passed while she was young, Chase carries her grandfather's lessons like a compass, especially in moments of uncertainty or tension.
